Romeo and Juliet’s
Lovers’ Walk

For an experience in slow tourism, The Lovers’ Walk is a themed tour through the backdrops of Romeo and Juliet’s love story, between the regions of Friuli Venezia Giulia and Veneto, in north-eastern Italy. The two noble lovers were real, Luigi Da Porto rom the region of Veneto was the inspiration for Romeo, and Lucina Savorgnan, from Friuli for Juliet. They lived in the Venetian Republic between the late 1500s and the early 1600s and are at the heart of the tragic tale.
The original story of Romeo and Juliet, entitled “Newly found story of two noble lovers” was written by Luigi Da Porto himself between 1512 and 1524. It was set in Verona and recalled the story of their love. Reinterpreted and adapted to the theatre in 1595 by William Shakespeare, Luigi Da Porto’s tale, now called Romeo and Juliet,gained worldwide fame, becoming a universal symbol for their love.
